6 Ways to Celebrate National Wellness Month at Home
1. Drink Water
There are countless health benefits to drinking water. Water helps maintain the balance of body fluids, helps control calorie intake, energizes muscles, clears your skin and benefits your kidneys. The list goes on and on!
Add a full glass of water to each of your snacks and meals. Or check out these water bottles on Amazon that can help you meet your water intake goals.
2. Practice Deep Breathing
Follow the 5-7-8 rule. Take a deep breath and breathe in for 5 seconds. Then proceed hold it for 7 seconds and release your breath slowly for 8 seconds. Did you try it? Do you feel better?
3. Stretch
You don’t need a yoga mat to practice stretching. You can use a beach towel or a blanket to soften your surface instead. Start in a seated position with your legs crossed. Place your hands on your knees and lengthen your spine. Feel free to add the 5-7-8 rule to this exercise.
There are plenty of good resources on youtube to help guide your stretching. One of our favorites is Yoga with Adriene.
4, Cut Back on Sugar
Oftentimes there is hidden sugars in items we consume everyday like salad dressings, alcohol, juice and sauces. Excess sugar is linked to health risks like heart disease and can leave you feeling extra tired and irritable. The American Heart Association recommends consuming 6 teaspoons of sugar per day. Try replacing soda with carbonated water or adding honey or fruit to your snacks instead.
5. Surround Yourself with Plants
Studies have shown that having plants in your home (or office) can boost your mood, increase productivity, and promote concentration and creativity. Snake plants, pythos plants, ZZ plants and philodendron are known to increase air quality.
Visit your local hardware store and see what they have in stock!
6. Declutter
With extra time at home, take the time to get around to those “maye-next-weekend” projects. Start small with a closet or a drawer. Stop holding onto things you don’t need! Sort your items into piles like “keep” or “giveaway.” Then once you’re ready, contact HaulShare to schedule your junk removal pick up.
