How to (finally) get your Junk Drawer Under Control
Let’s talk about junk drawers. Everybody has one (or maybe two) drawers that naturally collect household odds and ends. One thing leads to another and one day you open your junk drawer only to be horrified by the disorganized clutter. Here are some DIY ideas to tackle the mess:
Re-purpose kitchen gadgets
Whether you decide to use an ice cube tray, muffin tin, silverware tray, or even silicone cupcake liners, have fun and get creative with everyday kitchen ware. The dividers and compartments of trays and tins make it easy to sort and organize. Better yet, the dollar store is an excellent place to stock up on cheap kitchen gadgets intended for organizational purposes.
Rubber Bands
Rubber bands are an easy way to group together items of the same kind. Pens and markers, for example, don’t need a fancy bin or container. It’s simple to group them together with a rubber band you probably already have. You can use rubber bands to keep paper clips, bobby pins, safety pins and other tiny items out of the way and easy to find.
Recycle boxes/containers
Think: subscription boxes and online shopping. Reuse any small boxes or containers you may have received in the mail for knick knacks like sunglasses, batteries, lipstick, power cords etc. You can cut off the top of a shoe box or the bottom of a cereal box for drawers that might be long and narrow.
Junk drawers are a natural phenomenon in any household. Get organized and use the drawer space wisely!
